The API 2448 24-channel console is a full-size analog recording desk built for serious rooms that want the unmistakable punch, weight and musical immediacy of an API console, but in a more compact and practical frame. This version is supplied as a 24-channel console without automation, making it a beautifully direct, hands-on analog workstation for tracking, mixing and hybrid studio production.
It carries the API tradition into a modern studio environment, combining proper analog signal flow, tactile control, classic metering and the famous API tone in a modular format that can be configured around the needs of the room. The 24-channel frame can be ordered as a straight channel frame or expanded with a 19” rack bay, dual 19” rack bays, a 30” producer’s desk, or combinations of desk and rack sections. This makes it a very adaptable centrepiece for a tracking room, mix suite, production studio or hybrid setup where outboard gear needs to live directly inside the working surface.
Each channel is equipped with a mic preamp and equalizer, giving the engineer that familiar API front-end right at the source. The console accepts API 500 Series equalizers, with factory configurations including API 550A and 560 EQ modules. This is a proper API working desk: fast, musical and physical, with the kind of EQ and preamp tone that has shaped countless records.
Each channel features dual inputs with a small fader rotary pot, pan, solo, mute, safe and flip functions. Even in its 24-channel format, the 2448 can provide 56 channels to the mix bus, giving the console serious mix capacity without demanding the footprint of a very large frame. The architecture also includes 8 multitrack buses, 8 auxiliary buses, 1 stereo bus and 4 stereo returns on 100 mm faders, with multitrack and stereo bus assignment.
This non-automated 24-channel version keeps the workflow simple, immediate and very much in the classic console tradition. No screens, no layers, no overthinking. Just a powerful analog desk with API tone, generous routing and the kind of direct control that makes engineers want to reach for the faders.
The API 2448 is also available in other channel counts, including 32 and 40 channel versions, and can be specified with or without API Final Touch Automation depending on the required workflow.
