The DBX 160X is widely used in professional audio production, broadcasting, and live sound applications. It is valued for its transparent and musical compression characteristics, versatility, and reliability. Its ability to control dynamics and shape the sound of individual tracks or entire mixes makes it a sought-after tool for audio engineers and musicians.
The dbx 160X offers selectable compression curves, including OverEasy and Hard Knee options, along with versatile controls for threshold, ratio, and output. Its True RMS level detection ensures natural-sounding dynamics processing, ranging from subtle compression to peak limiting.
One unique feature of the dbx 160X is its "INFINITY +" inverse-compression mode, which reduces the audio output level below unity gain when the input surpasses the threshold. This mode proves valuable for addressing overpowering vocal choruses and controlling excessive levels in a live mix. Additionally, the detector input can be used in conjunction with an equalizer for de-essing vocals or smoothing out resonant notes on acoustic guitar and bass. The dbx 160X also supports stereo-coupling, allowing two units to process an entire mix or stereo-mic'd instruments without affecting the left/right image.
Key Features of the dbx 160X:
- Selectable OverEasy or Hard Knee compression with program-dependent attack and release times
- Compression ratio variable from 1:1 to infinity :1 and negative compression
- Dual RMS LED display monitors input or output, gain reduction, and can be calibrated for different operating levels
- Up to 40dB of available gain reduction
- Infinity+ compression allows negative compression
- Optional output transformer capability
- Can be linked together with another 160X unit for expanded functionality.
