The EMI RE301 and TR52 are classic professional reel-to-reel machines originally designed for broadcast and studio use, including installations at BBC and EMI facilities. The RE301 is essentially the military-spec version of the TR52, distinguished by its rugged metal construction. Both models employed fully tube-based amplification stages, including microphone preamplifiers.
Both amplifier sections are functional. Please note that these are original tape recorder recording amplifiers, not standalone mic preamps. As such, they include the factory equalization curves intended for tape recording, resulting in reduced low frequencies and emphasized high frequencies when used outside their intended circuit.
