The BG1 Stereo is a dual-channel tube compressor inspired by the classic Altec 436 and its British-modified variants. Housed in a 3U chassis, it features two independent compressors with linkable sidechain amplifiers for true stereo operation.
Each channel runs a tube complement of 4BC8, 6SN7, and 6AL5. The signal path is fully balanced throughout, with transformer-coupled inputs and outputs. All connections are balanced XLR and located on the rear panel.
What It Does
Input and Output Controls
Continuously variable input and output controls allow precise level matching and fine adjustment of compression behavior. The output control sits post output transformer and effectively acts as an output pad. Running it fully open is perfectly acceptable, with attenuation applied as needed.
600 Ω / 150 Ω Input Impedance Selector
This switch selects the input transformer tap. The 150-ohm setting delivers increased gain and added color, and can also be used to drive the compressor directly from a microphone for more character and saturation.
