The JX-3P was designed for players who wanted classic Roland analog sounds with quick access to presets and minimal programming. Its user interface was intentionally kept simple, making it easy for beginners and convenient for everyone.
Under the hood, it shares the same rich analog filters and VCAs found in the iconic JUNO and JUPITER series. Like the JUNO, it offers six-voice polyphony with digitally controlled oscillators (DCOs) running through analog filters, envelopes, and amplifiers. Unlike the JUNO, the JX-3P has two oscillators per voice, giving it more sonic flexibility. However, its programming interface is less immediate and tactile, which likely explains why the JUNO series became more popular.
The JX-3P was also Roland’s first synthesizer with built-in MIDI, although MIDI functionality is limited to basic note on/off messages.
It also includes a built-in 128-step sequencer and is capable of producing lush, classic analog textures that still hold up today.
This synthesizer does NOT include the PG-200 programmer.
