Royer R-101 Ribbon Microphone # 1184

The R-101 is a mono, passive ribbon microphone built around Royer’s patented offset-ribbon transducer and a 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element. Designed for both studio sessions and demanding live use, especially guitar amps and brass, the R-101 brings classic ribbon warmth with modern durability.

It features Royer’s multi-layer windscreen for superior protection against plosives and air blasts, plus an internally shock-mounted transducer that isolates the ribbon from vibrations and reduces proximity effect, allowing closer placement with less low-end buildup.

With its smooth frequency response and phase linearity, the R-101 imparts an unmistakably analog character to digital recordings - adding depth, warmth, and realism that feels more like tape than digits. Its figure-8 polar pattern captures natural ambience for room and overhead miking, while its rare-earth neodymium magnets and flux-frame design increase sensitivity and reduce stray magnetic radiation.

A versatile ribbon with Royer’s signature sound, the R-101 is equally at home on electric guitars, brass, drums, and room applications.
