Grace Design M502 500-series Compressor

The Grace Design m502 is a clean and highly musical optical compressor for the 500-series format, built for smooth dynamics control without getting in the way of the source. It carries the familiar Grace Design approach: precise, transparent, reliable and very easy to use.

The m502 offers all the essential compressor controls, including threshold, attack, release, ratio and makeup gain, plus selectable input level settings for matching quieter or hotter signals. It can move from gentle levelling to more obvious compression while keeping the sound open and natural. In the Mix review, the m502 was praised for sounding excellent on kick drum, acoustic guitar and stereo drum overheads, taming peaks and cymbals without making the signal harsh or coloured.

For stereo work, two m502 modules can be linked easily, making it a practical choice for overheads, stereo instruments, bus processing and mix duties. A 10-segment LED gain reduction meter gives clear visual feedback, while the peak LED helps keep levels under control.
